The body of a woman was found yesterday afternoon (Sunday 7th September) in the same area where 75-year-old Miriam, reported missing since last Wednesday in Tenerife, was last seen.

The discovery was made by a family member shortly after 1:00pm in the Morro de Los Gatos area, which is between Chayofa and Valle San Lorenzo, not far from where she lived in Cabo Blanco.

Large-scale search operation

Miriam’s disappearance had been reported to the National Centre for Missing Persons, prompting the Guardia Civil to launch a major search operation, which included the deployment of patrols from the Guardia Civil’s Citizen Security unit, its Air Service, the Special Mountain Rescue and Intervention Group (GREIM), the SEPRONA nature protection unit with drones, and the Guardia Civil’s Canine Unit.

Local emergency services also joined the effort, including Arona Local Police and Arona’s municipal emergency team.

Search efforts were concentrated across several areas, including Cabo Blanco, Buzanada, Valle San Lorenzo, and Chayofa.

Next steps

Authorities have not yet officially confirmed the identity of the body, but given the circumstances, everything points to it being the missing woman. Investigators are now working to clarify the circumstances leading to her death.

An autopsy will be carried out to officially identify the body and confirm the cause of death.
