A shocking late-night robbery last night in the south of Tenerife has left tourists shaken after a couple allegedly carried out a violent street attack, threatening victims and bystanders with a gun.

Police have arrested a 29-year-old man and a 19-year-old woman in connection with the incident, which unfolded in the early hours and involved what appeared to be a firearm being discharged in a public area.

Tourists ambushed in sudden attack

The ordeal began at around 12:30am when one of the victims was suddenly grabbed from behind. In a swift and aggressive move, the female suspect allegedly snatched a mobile phone and a watch using force.

What followed quickly escalated into a chaotic scene, as nearby members of the public rushed to help and managed to restrain the woman after a struggle.

Gun drawn as panic spreads

Moments later, the situation took a far more alarming turn. The male suspect is said to have pulled out a handgun and began threatening everyone around him in a bid to free his accomplice.

Witnesses were left stunned as he fired the weapon twice in the street. Although the gun was later confirmed to be a compressed air weapon, the detonations caused fear and confusion among those present.

Miraculously, no one was injured.

The man then fled the scene, abandoning his partner, who was swiftly arrested by police.

Dramatic police pursuit

A rapid investigation led officers to track down the suspect just hours later while he was driving the vehicle believed to have been used in the escape.

Inside the car, police uncovered a disturbing collection of items:

  • Two imitation firearms
  • Two balaclavas
  • Equipment linked to criminal activity

Further searches at the couple’s motorhome revealed even more, including a rifle registered to the suspect and the air gun believed to have been used in the attack.

Fears of wider crime spree

Both suspects, who already have a criminal record, have now been brought before the courts. Officers are also investigating whether they may be linked to other crimes in the south of the island.

The incident has raised fresh concerns about tourist safety, as what began as a routine evening quickly turned into a terrifying encounter on the streets of Tenerife.
