A viral video has caused outrage in the south of Tenerife, exposing a stretch of bus stops described by locals as “third-world” and dangerously neglected.
The footage, filmed between Guaza and El Fraile in the municipality of Arona, has been widely shared on Instagram.
It shows ten bus stops in crumbling, unsafe conditions. With no shade, no safety barriers, and surrounded by rubbish. The stops have been branded a disgrace by residents and a stark contrast to the image of a modern, world-class tourist destination.
Locals say the situation is not new, as they’ve warned that these roadside stops pose a serious risk to pedestrians for years, with no protection from oncoming traffic and no shelter from the sun.
What’s shown is far from the polished vision of Tenerife sold to tourists. Instead, the video reveals broken pavements, exposed concrete, and a complete lack of basic infrastructure.
With temperatures climbing and traffic volumes on the rise, residents fear someone will be seriously hurt if nothing changes. They’re now calling on local authorities to act, demanding safe, clean, and dignified conditions for everyday commuters, not just visitors.
