All passengers waiting to get on their planes were evacuated from the boarding area at Tenerife North Airport this morning (Sunday), after excessive smoke was detected inside the terminal building.
The alert, raised at around 7.30am, led security teams from AENA to immediately activate emergency procedures. The public address system instructed people to leave the area calmly and travellers were swiftly moved out of the affected area as a precaution, causing disruption and concern among those waiting to board flights.
Emergency protocols activated
Airport firefighters were called in without delay to assess the situation and locate the source of the smoke. The rapid response ensured the area was secured while the evacuation remained in place.
During the incident, access to parts of the terminal was restricted, and normal boarding operations were temporarily halted. The disruption led to delays for several departing flights as passengers were held outside the affected zone.
Advice for travellers
Passengers travelling through Tenerife were advised to check with their airlines for updates, as schedules were adjusted following the incident.
All operations have now returned to normal.
