Adeje has taken fresh steps to improve safety along its coastline with the delivery of 50 new self-inflating lifebuoy devices now in operation across the municipality.

The initiative has been led by the Departments of Tourism & Beaches and Security & Emergencies, headed by councillors Patricia Paulsen Fölling and Mercedes Vargas Delgado.

The equipment has been distributed among the Local Police, Civil Protection and Rescue teams, Adeje Volunteer Firefighters, and the municipal lifeguard service.

The ONEUP PRO devices are compact, lightweight rescue aids that automatically inflate when they hit the water. Designed so that anyone nearby can throw one quickly to a swimmer in distress, they provide immediate flotation support, feature reflective elements for visibility, and include a securing rope to aid retrieval. They are also reusable by simply replacing the CO₂ cartridge.

Officials say the technology is particularly valuable in areas without permanent supervision, helping both trained personnel and members of the public react faster in emergencies.

“This measure is essential to continue consolidating a safer coastline for residents and visitors,” said the councillors, highlighting Adeje’s commitment to beach safety and compliance with coastal and civil protection regulations.

The investment forms part of Adeje’s wider drowning prevention strategy, strengthening emergency response capabilities and ensuring safer bathing areas for everyone enjoying the municipality’s beaches and coastal areas.
