AENA has confirmed to the Canary Islands Government that more than €1 billion will be invested in the islands’ airports under the Airport Regulation Document (DORA) for 2027-2031.
The majority of this funding will be dedicated to the refurbishment and transformation of the terminals at Tenerife Sur, Tenerife Norte, and Lanzarote Airports, with a particular focus on merging the insular and international terminals at Lanzarote.
The announcement was made earlier today, Tuesday, following a meeting between the leaders of AENA, headed by President Maurici Lucena, and regional officials, including the President of the Canary Islands, Fernando Clavijo, and the Minister for Public Works, Transport and Housing, Pablo Rodríguez.
Both Clavijo and Rodríguez emphasised that the investment is “historic” for the archipelago, especially when compared with the current DORA investment, which stands at just over €300 million.
The economic injection, scheduled to be implemented between 2027 and 2031, highlights the region’s commitment to modernising its airport infrastructure to better serve both locals and the increasing number of tourists visiting the Canary Islands, which topped 18 million in 2024.
