AEMET issues yellow and orange weather warnings in Tenerife and the western islands

The State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) has issued yellow warnings for wind and coastal phenomena in the northern regions of Tenerife, La Palma, and El Hierro starting from 6:00pm this afternoon, Sunday.

Strong winds with gusts of up to 80 km/h are anticipated. In Tenerife, these winds will be from the southeast, primarily affecting areas from El Sauzal to the highlands of La Orotava, including mountainous regions.

In La Palma, coastal areas in the south, mountainous regions, and El Paso will be impacted, while in El Hierro, the effects will be felt in the highlands and the southern slope.

Regarding the sea conditions, there will be northeast winds ranging from 50 to 61 km/h (force 7) and combined north waves of 4 to 5 meters.

The wind warnings will remain in effect until at least 7:00am tomorrow morning (Monday). In the case of El Hierro, it will be upgraded to an orange alert with very strong southeast gusts, particularly in El Golfo, where speeds could reach 90 km/h.

Additionally, a yellow alert will be activated in La Gomera, with maximum gusts reaching 70 km/h.

These active weather warnings will be updated tomorrow morning by the Spanish Met Office.
