A thick black column of smoke spotted in Los Cristianos
A large column of smoke caused concern in Los Cristianos this afternoon (Friday), with the cloud visible from across the south of Tenerife and from the busy TF-1 motorway. Emergency services were quickly sent after the alert was raised shortly after midday.
The Canary Islands emergency coordination centre confirmed it received the call minutes earlier and activated its response protocol. Firefighters from Tenerife’s fire service were supported by officers from the National Police and Local Police.
As a precaution, an ambulance was also sent to the area, although there are currently no reports of injuries or people affected by smoke inhalation.
The cause of the fire has not yet been confirmed, but early indications suggest the smoke may be coming from a makeshift structure.
Drivers on the TF-1 and those in nearby areas may experience disruption while emergency crews deal with the situation.
At the time of writing, no injuries have been reported, and the situation appears to be under control, with the cause still under investigation.
