A patera arrives in southern Tenerife carrying 19 sub-Saharan migrants

Earlier this morning (Sunday), a boat carrying 19 Sub-Saharan migrants was intercepted in southern Tenerife and escorted by Maritime Rescue to the port of Los Cristianos, where the occupants disembarked, according to the Emergency Services Coordination Centre.

Among the individuals on board were 19 males, including four minors, according to sources from Maritime Rescue, who were met at the dock by the Red Cross, and SUC medical personnel.

Maritime Rescue reported receiving a call at 8:10am informing of the presence of a patera (small boat) near the coast, close to the Marina San Miguel by Amarialla Golf in the south of the island.

The Salvamar Alpheratz Maritime Rescue boat was sent to intercept the patera, which measured 15 metres in length, and escorted it to the port of Los Cristianos, where the migrants disembarked and received medical assistance. No transfers to medical facilities were required as all were in good health after their crossing from West Africa.
