A female scuba diver dies in Tenerife

A woman, of whom no further information has been provided, died yesterday (Saturday) whilst scuba diving off the coast of Tenerife in the municipality of Fasnia, according to reports from the Emergency Services Coordination Centre (CECOES).

The event occurred just after 11:00am yesterday morning, when the 1-1-2 call centre received an alert stating that a diver needed assistance after being pulled out of the sea.

Another diver, who had identified herself as a doctor, verified that the woman was in cardiorespiratory arrest and began to perform resuscitation manoeuvres on her until paramedics arrived at the scene.

CECOES had dispatched a SUC ambulance, a doctor and a nurse from the Arico Health Centre; the Local police; and the Guardia Civil to the location specified by the caller, and paramedics took over with advanced CPR manoeuvres trying to resuscitate the female diver.

Unfortunately, their efforts were in vain and they were unable to save her, and could only confirm her death. The Guardia Civil looked after the body until coroners came to take it away for official identification and autopsy to confirm the cause of her death.
