A dead body is found floating in the sea in Mogán

The lifeless body of a man was spotted floating in the sea yesterday (Saturday) off the coast of Mogán in Gran Canaria, between the beaches of Amadores and Puerto Rico, as reported by the Emergency Services Coordination Centre (CECOES).

They received an alert at around 10:45am yesterday informing them that a dead body was floating just five metres from the coast, by rocks at the foot of cliffs making it difficult to access.

Beach lifeguards were able to recover the body from the water with the help of the fire brigade, and seeing he was in cardiorespiratory arrest, they began to try resuscitation manoeuvres.

Unfortunately, their efforts were in vain and a doctor and a nurse from the Arguineguín Health Centre, along with SUC medical personnel, confirmed his death and verified that he had suffered several different injuries in the water, presumably from hitting the rocks.

Firefighters moved the body of the deceased to an area where a Maritime Rescue vessel was able to take him to the Mogán pier, where the judicial authority carried out the corresponding procedures to authorise an autopsy to confirm the cause of death.

The man has been identified as a 58-year-old male of German origin, who was on holiday on the island.
