An 86-year-old holidaymaker was rescued by helicopter yesterday morning (Friday) after experiencing a health issue while hiking on the Roque del Conde trail in Adeje, south Tenerife, as reported by the Emergency Services Coordination Centre (CECOES).
The incident unfolded at around 11:15am when CECOES received an alert requesting medical assistance for the French hiker, who had become unwell due to a health problem and needed treatment, so they immediately dispatched the necessary emergency resources to the location given.
A GES helicopter was swiftly dispatched to the scene and after successfully rescuing him, airlifted him to the helipad at Adeje fire station, where an ambulance and medical team were waiting.
On arrival, paramedics assessed and treated the man, who was found to be in a “moderately serious” condition, and taken to Hospiten Sur hospital in Playa Las Americas for further treatment.
The quick and coordinated response by the emergency services ensured the man received prompt medical attention, highlighting the effectiveness of Tenerife's emergency protocols for incidents on its popular, and difficult to access, hiking routes.
