68-year-old hiker rescued from Mt Guaza in the south of Tenerife

A 68-year-old female hiker suffered a fall whilst walking up Mt Guaza in the south of Tenerife on Sunday afternoon, needing medical assistance and to be airlifted to hospital.

The Emergency Services Coordination Centre (CECOES) received a call for help at around 4:15pm informing them of the incident, and dispatched the necessary resources to the location given on Mt Guaza, which is the mountain with all the antennas on it over looking Los Cristianos.

The Adeje fire brigade was the first to reach the injured woman and give her initial first aid, but due to the challenging terrain the difficulty of accessing her by land and her condition, they called for a GES helicopter to airlift her from the mountain.

With their help, she was successfully winched onto the helicopter which then flew her to the helipad at the Adeje fire station where medics were waiting to assess and treat her.

After attending to rib and leg injuries, they took her by ambulance to hospital in Las Americas for further treatment, where she is expected to make a full recovery.
