55-year-old woman drowns at Esquinzo Beach in Fuerteventura
A 55-year-old woman has died after being rescued from the water showing signs of drowning at Esquinzo Beach, in the municipality of Pájara, Fuerteventura.
Emergency services were alerted at around 1:15pm on Saturday, according to the Canary Islands Emergency and Security Coordination Centre (CECOES), which immediately activated the necessary rescue teams.
Paramedics from the Canary Islands Emergency Service (SUC), along with a doctor and nurse from the Morro Jable health centre, attended the scene but were unable to save her and confirmed her death shortly afterwards.
The Guardia Civil took charge of the formal procedures until the arrival of the judicial authorities, who gave permission for her body to be removed for formal identification and autopsy to confirm the cause of death.
