A 55-year-old cyclist is in a serious condition after being hit by a car on the TF-28 in the south of Tenerife. The incident happened at 1.25pm on Tuesday (24th February 2026) as the rider was travelling through the municipality of San Miguel de Abona.
The Canary Islands’ emergency coordination centre, CECOES, received an alert reporting that a cyclist was lying on the road and needed urgent medical assistance.
CECOES dispatched three SUC ambulances to the scene: a medicalised ambulance, an advanced life support unit and a basic life support vehicle. Paramedics treated the man at the roadside, who was found to be suffering from multiple serious injuries (polytrauma) at the time of initial assessment.
After being stabilised, he was transferred by medicalised ambulance to the Hospital Universitario Nuestra Señora de la Candelaria in Santa Cruz for urgent treatment.
The Guardia Civil have opened an investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding the collision.
Motorists are reminded to take extra care on Tenerife’s roads, particularly on routes popular with cyclists such as the TF-28.
