5-year-old boy saved from drowning at hotel in south Tenerife

A 5-year-old boy was rescued from near drowning at a hotel in Playa Las Americas in the south of Tenerife yesterday (Thursday), as reported by the Emergency Services Coordination Centre (CECOES).

The incident occurred at 11:20am, which is when CECOES received an alert, informing that the young boy had jumped into the pool without arm bands on or adult supervision, and hadn’t stayed afloat.

Lifeguards at the Green Garden Resort realised that the young boy was submerged under the water without an adult present, and immediately jumped into the pool and managed to pull him out of the water, unconscious and showing signs of drowning.

As the boy didn’t react, they immediately started performing CPR, and successfully managed to revive him, restoring his consciousness. When paramedics arrived, they continued providing medical assistance and worked to stabilise the boy, who was experiencing moderate respiratory failure.

Once stabilised he was taken by ambulance, with his parents, to Hospiten Sur hospital in Las Americas for further treatment.

The Local Police have reported that the young boy is from Konigswinter in Germany, and is on holiday in Tenerife with his parents. He celebrated his fifth birthday last week.
