A 26-year-old man tragically passed away yesterday (Saturday) after being pulled from the water in cardiorespiratory arrest with signs of drowning at Almáciga Beach in Tenerife.
The Emergency Services Coordination Centre (CECOES) received a distress call at around 4:00pm reporting a man in trouble in the water, and immediately dispatched the necessary emergency resources to the location given.
Bystanders at the beach managed to pull the man from the water and began performing basic cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) until the crew from a GES rescue helicopter joined the efforts, administering further basic CPR techniques.
Shortly after, paramedics arrived and took over with advanced resuscitation procedures but unfortunately, despite their efforts, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
This tragic event highlights the dangers of the seas around the Canary Islands. which is why people are always advised to be cautious when entering the water due to currents, waves and changeable conditions.
