21-year-old man rescued from drowning at a south Tenerife beach

A 21-year-old man was rescued from drowning at a beach in Costa Adeje yesterday afternoon (Wednesday) after being pulled from the water unconscious, according to the Emergency Services Coordination Centre (CECOES)

The incident took place at Playa Diego Hernández beach in La Caleta in the south of Tenerife, and CECOES were alerted to the situation by a member of the public requesting medical assistance.

Due to the location, they dispatched a GES helicopter and immediately airlifted the man to the Adeje Fire Brigade helipad where SUC paramedics were waiting to treat him.

They confirmed that the man was alive but showing signs of drowning so stabilised him before taking him by ambulance to Hospiten Sur hospital in Playa Las Americas where he was admitted in serious condition for further treatment, but is expected to make a full recovery.

The incident highlights the importance of vigilance and quick action in emergency situations, especially in popular tourist destinations like Tenerife’s southern beaches. The coordination between multiple emergency services was crucial in preventing a potential tragedy.
