More than 200kg of rubbish was cleared from Playa San Juan beach on Saturday (28th March), following a successful community clean-up organised by Canary Green.

The event, held on Saturday, brought together over 60 volunteers alongside local businesses and organisations, all working together to protect Tenerife’s coastline.

Participants spent the day removing litter and microplastics from both the beach and surrounding coastal areas, tackling pollution that continues to pose a growing threat to marine life across the Canary Islands.

Beach clean-ups like this are widely recognised as one of the simplest yet most effective ways to protect the environment, while also encouraging more responsible habits among both residents and tourists.

In total, they collected over 200kg of waste from Playa San Juan and nearby coastal areas. The scale of the turnout and the volume of rubbish collected underline both the importance of the issue and the willingness of the community to take action.

The clean-up was supported by Guía de Isora Town Hall, local volunteer groups, Sholeo Lodges, Ocean Beer, PrivaTune, and EscapeFitbyMaggie. Organisers expressed their thanks to all those involved, with special recognition given to the volunteers whose energy and commitment made the event possible.

Looking ahead, Canary Green has already announced its next clean-up, which will take place at Playa El Socorro in Los Realejos on Saturday 25th April. Anyone interested in taking part are encouraged to sign up and get involved.

Those who want to support the initiative beyond individual events can also join Canary Green’s community by becoming a “Sustainable Gangster”. The programme, available through the organisation’s website (canarygreen.org), allows people to stay connected, take part in future activities, and actively contribute to protecting the Canary Islands’ natural environment.
