VIDEO: 3 pilot whales appear in a bathing area off a beach in the south of Tenerife
Three pilot whales surprised holidaymakers in Los Cristianos this morning (Tuesday) by appearing in the bathing area just off the beach, in the south of Tenerife.
Fear and confusion took over those in the water as they swam close to the shore, as at first, they thought that they could be sharks.
Thousands gathered on the beach to witness this unusual incident, and hundreds more were on pleasure boats in the port, as the three pilot whales swam happily around as lifeguards urged bathers to get out of the water and keep a safe distance from them so as not to disturb their behaviour or scare them.
After a short while, the cetaceans were coaxed back out of the beach and port area back into the open sea without causing any danger or injury to themselves, leaving onlookers in awe at what they had just witnessed.
