Siam Park celebrates Thai New Year with a variety of traditional activities

This Sunday, Siam Park, located in Costa Adeje in the south of Tenerife will celebrate one of Thailand's most prominent events: the arrival of the new year —the 2,567th according to their calendar— in collaboration with the Thai Association of the Canary Islands, Mueng Siam.

This festival, following the Buddhist calendar, which is the majority religion in the Asian country, takes place every year in April and is characterised by water as its central element. This is one reason why the water park, designated as the best in the world by TripAdvisor, routinely becomes the ideal venue for celebration for the Thai community on the island, and for the general public.

But Thailand's relationship with the Loro Parque Group, the parent company of Siam Park, goes much further, considering that the company's vice president, Christoph Kiessling, is the honorary consul of Thailand. Kiessling himself has taken the opportunity to invite the general public to come this Sunday to enjoy an exotic festival.

"We thank Mueng Siam for their invaluable collaboration in celebrating this special event, in which we hope that all customers who come to enjoy Siam Park that day will also participate," he said.

With a variety of activities and exhibitions, the Thai Association will showcase its culture and traditions with music from the country and different folk groups performing typical dances. Additionally, sports enthusiasts can enjoy the spectacle of the martial art known as Muay Thai. Everything will be complemented by a papaya salad contest, massages, contests, and art exhibitions.

The most important event of the day is the ritual called Rod Nam Dum Hua, in which homage is paid to the elders of the community by pouring scented water over their hands as a sign of respect and gratitude.
