Loro Parque welcomes the birth of an endangered species

In a thrilling development for conservationists and wildlife enthusiasts alike, Loro Parque celebrates the arrival of a newborn member of an endangered species. Exploring the unique movement capabilities that characterise its kind, a tiny lemur, just three weeks old, embarks on its journey to discover the world around it at Loro Parque.

This baby holds immeasurable value for a species where each birth brings a glimmer of hope against extinction. The news of its birth has sent waves of excitement through the park located in Puerto de la Cruz (Tenerife), confirming the well-being of the animals and the invaluable effort invested in species conservation, a mission championed by the park's Foundation.

According to figures provided by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), the most reputable voice in the field, these primates native to Madagascar are listed as endangered on the dire ranking of threatened species. Currently, it's estimated that only around 2,500 remain in the wild.

The little lemur, now open for visitors to admire in its habitat at Loro Parque, is a miniature replica of its parents, displaying the distinctive black and white ringed tail and extraordinary golden eyes that have made them one of the most admired and cherished animals.

Endowed with remarkable agility, prehensile fingers, and opposable thumbs, these creatures are omnivorous and strictly diurnal. With their gentle appearance and moist noses, they are highly social animals often seen huddled together in "lemur balls," cuddling to keep their offspring warm.

The newest resident of Loro Parque has quickly become the star of the lemur group inhabiting the La Jungla area, with its tiny ringed tail and playful antics that, for the first time, momentarily separate it from its protective mother. It's a source of joy for its siblings and entertainment for its attentive parents.
