Dead body found floating in the sea by a tourist excursion boat

The lifeless body of an unidentified person was found at around 10:40am this morning (Wednesday) floating just 40 metres off the coast of Arguineguín in Gran Canaria, as reported by the Emergency Services Coordination Centre (CECOES).

A tourist whales and dolphins excursion boat spotted the body whilst on a trip this morning and notified the authorities who dispatched a Maritime Rescue boat came to the scene, which retrieved the body and transferred it to the Arguineguín dock.

At the dock, agents of the National Police, Local Police, and Guardia Civil were waiting for their arrival, with the Guardia taking charge of custody of the body until the arrival of the judicial authority to authorise its removal for official identification and autopsy to confirm the cause of death.
