Work-shy man stayed home, for 4,000 days!

THE mind-boggling story of a “work-shy”, Government worker, which came to light last week, has divided opinion across the country.

It was revealed that the man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, has been paid in full, despite being away from his desk for 12 of the last 15 years.

He receives a monthly salary of 1,500 euros after being employed as a nursing assistant at Alicante’s Doctor Esquerdo psychiatric hospital.

His absence was highlighted when it was revealed that he had been on sick leave for over 4,000 days, between 2001 and 2016.

And, in addition to these astonishing figures, the employee avoided more work by taking his legally-contracted holidays!

Alejandro Moral, a provincial official, said: “Yes, it is legal, even if, ethically and morally, it may not seem so.

“We’ve tried everything from a legal standpoint, and we even started disciplinary proceedings against him.”

Yet the employee has, somehow, won every one of the legal battles he’s faced. They included a court case in which he proved that the National Institute for Social Security did not notify him correctly that he was set to return to his post following one period of sick leave.

The employee took sickies for a year on seven occasions, with three of these periods stretching to 18 months, the maximum permitted by Spanish law.

His condition cannot be revealed, legally, but his doctors have signed him off for all his sick leaves without issue.

In a move to resolve the situation, his employers are now hoping to secure him permanent disability leave, so that he can be taken off their books, once and for all!
