It’s not all white for Ibiza owners

Local 33THE Seat Ibiza is the most stolen car in Spain according to a report by Techno Security. And the Audi Q7 and Porsche Cayenne were the two high-end vehicles most popular with thieves.

The report collated every reported stolen car across the country last year and the Ibiza made up 39% of cars pinched, followed by the Ford Fiesta and Volkswagen Golf, both 13%.

Statistics also revealed that 52% of vehicle thefts in the country occurred in Madrid. Malaga was second with 10%, and white cars were most preferred.

As vehicles move towards computer security systems, the report says there are more ways to steal them by hacking software.

Rafael Ruiz, chief co-ordinator for Techno Security, said the reason the Ibiza was popular among thieves was its “high demand on the black market”.

“Also, it is easier to steal because it has fewer security measures than other brands,” he said. “Its parts are also in high demand because of the Ibiza’s common use across the country.”
