Weather warning – orange alert

The Tenerife Cabildo have issued an Orange weather warning.

They state that you should avoid unnecessary travel due to strong winds this weekend. The Meteorological Agency have announced that winds could reach 90 miles per hour.

These winds will be most intense on Saturday 4th February, continuing into Sunday. AEMET has increased the warning level from yellow to orange and it applies to the islands of La Palma, El Hierro and La Gomera, as well as Gran Canaria and Tenerife.

The Cabildo advises:-

Do not travel north-west or to the sout-east side of the island, where wind gusts will be more intense.

  1. Close and lock doors and windows.
  2. Remove or secure any object that could be carried by the wind, such as pots, furniture, awnings, etc.
  3. If you must go out, do not walk near trees, and away from old buildings or construction.
  4. Stay away from walls, fences and avoid walking under cranes, scaffolding or other objects that could be blown down.
  5. Avoid swimming in secluded beaches, where red flags are flying.
  6. Stay away from where the waves break (rocks, piers, docks)

 Remember, in case of emergency please call 1-1-2.
