Tough Las Vegas charity walk, to aid mental health

THE Feel Good Association charity joined forces with children’s charity Helping Hands recently to stage a fun walk in Tenerife’s own Las Vegas, guided expertly by Andy Walker, of top-rated Tenerife Guided Walks.

The charities were delighted with the 50-plus turn-out, including a big group of young children, who came along to support the cause.

Despite the sweltering calima, they completed the 7km hike, through stunning mountain landscape… some of them even running back down the mountain!

This cultural hike takes you by cave houses, “tajeas” (water channels), and a watermill, as well as lightning-struck pine trees. The group were also fortunate to see some almond blossom.

The walk also featured a team quiz to test everyone’s local knowledge of the area, and the participants were greeted with “no bull” vegan burgers, cold drinks and Las Vegas-themed music in the recreational area.

A big thanks to Kris Richard for sorting out the Elvis tracks!

There was even a hand-made photo booth with an Elvis costume, to ensure some fun memories of the day.

And another thank-you to Gabriella Young and Leslie ‘Elvis’ Moore for making this possible.

The event was followed up with a brilliant afternoon at The Garage, with a raffle and live music from the fabulous Alabama Band from Oklahoma, who were absolutely fantastic!

A joint statement from The Feel Good Association and Helping Hands said: “We would like to thank everyone who took part, donated, sponsored, gave up their free time to help out. Thank you so much to all our friends that came along to show their support.

“Big thanks to Tracey and Val, for entertaining the children, and their organisation of such a super day at The Garage… what a fabulous venue!

Thanks to our helpers, Ann, Margaret, Linda, who raised €440 by selling raffle tickets, and the wonderful youngsters who sold T-shirts, bags and books… Luca, Gabby, Charlin, Sarah, Joe & Francis.

A special thank-you certificate was presented to young Kimberley Wall for raising more than €210, all by herself on the sponsored walk.

Also, thanks to the amazing, always full of beans and smiles, unwaveringly-generous Elizabeth Montague, truly a force to be reckoned with, whose Helping Hands charity made a kind donation of €2,500.

Altogether, the grand total from the Charity Hike, the Helping Hands donation and proceeds from the post-event, added up to a staggering €3,972.16 for the Feel Good Association’s first fund-raiser.

This is a Tenerife mental health charity, which supports people suffering from mental health problems. as well as striving to reduce the stigma surrounding them.

They have a “building dreams” project, which aims to improve the lives of people with mental health issues by providing them with a paid internship, where they learn useful new skills, and also feel part of something.
