Tina comes out of her shell

Ladies’ basketball

CHECK out all the basics necessary for the Women’s Basketball World Cup: courts, teams and hoops… and there has to be a mascot, of course.

Tina the Turtle swam into the spotlight in Santa Cruz this week as part of the build-up to the event, being held at La Laguna and Santa Cruz, from 22nd-30th September.

The top 16 nations from across the globe will descend on Tenerife to start out in four groups of four, prior to the knock-out stages.

It’s a big event on the world calendar and a lot of work has been done to prepare the stage.

The main venue, the Pabellon Quico Cabrera, next to CD Tenerife football ground, needed a 1.1m-euro facelift, but it will be completed, in time for the action.
