Tenerife tourism’s blossoming again

NEARLY 1.9 million passengers arrived in Tenerife during the first quarter of the year, which was a 4.7% growth against the same period last year.

The figure indicates that the island received the most tourists in the Canaries in the first three months of 2017, followed by Gran Canaria (1.6m, +17%); Lanzarote (818,782, +8,8 %) and Fuerteventura (675.597, +2,9 %).

Tenerife Cabildo President Carlos Alonso appreciates the positive influx of international arrivals, despite the effect of Easter Week, which last year was in March and this year April.

“We have managed to stay in positive figures in virtually all international markets, with more than 10,3m airline seats on offer to the Island, representing a 9% increase airline tickets for Tenerife South and 1% for Tenerife North, and a total of 228 routes, said Alonso.

Arrivals in the first quarter showed that those from the UK were up by 8.2%, Germany (+0.6%), Nordic countries (+3.8%); France (+21.8%), the Netherlands (+15.7%), Italy (+11%), Switzerland (+14.5%), Belgium and Poland (+9.4%).

The following countries registered fewer numbers: Ireland (-2%), Austria (-5.1%) and Czech Republic (-7.9%).
