Telefónica in TV link with Netflix

NATIONAL telecommunications giant Telefónica has signed a deal with Netflix, allowing customers of the former’s Movístar + package to access its serial and film-streaming platform.

Movístar + subscribers do not need a separate subscription to the US-based Netflix to watch the huge array of dramas, comedies and full-length epics on offer.

Customers of Netflix or of Movístar + in Spain normally receive the dubbed versions of non-Spanish serials and films. But they can switch them back to the original language if required.

Although the Movístar + team has not officially confirmed the union, which could go live as early as this summer, Telefónica sources say the package will be fully integrated with Netflix, as though they are part of the same deal.

It means that customers won’t even have to press an extra button on their remote to switch from one to the other.

Telefónica has already expressed its intentions, publicly, of working more closely with Netflix, and the deal is likely to be tied up later this month.
