Sweet development

World 7Sainsbury’s has opened a new state of the art factory, bringing British patisserie style puds to stores. Creating 200 new jobs, the facility in Fakenham, Norfolk is home to the creation of Sainsbury’s chilled desserts ranging from Sherry Trifle to Chocolate Sundae.

Inspired by the growing demand for home entertaining, the factory is a joint partnership between the retailer and Hain Daniels, British food and drink manufacturer. With this in mind a trial began earlier this year to create premium desserts using British ingredients and finished to perfection.

The opening last Friday 20th September coincided with the next phase of products being made at the facility and an announcement of 200 jobs to the local rural area. Over 100 desserts are produced a day from a skilled team including Gary Clayson, Specialist Dessert Maker playing a role in coming up with new ideas, hand finishing desserts on the production line and transferring these skills to other colleagues – all in an average day.

The 15 ready to serve desserts are made using premium ingredients and customer taste tested. The range includes:

Taste the Difference Mango & Coconut Panna Cotta, Taste the Difference Passion fruit & Belgian Chocolate, Taste the Difference Raspberry Panna Cotta Terrine.
