Smart youngsters are life-saver for podenco

A GROUP of quick-thinking La Laguna youngsters saved a podenco from killing itself on Tuesday afternoon after realising it was going to jump from a second-floor apartment window.

They spotted the hunting animal as they strolled along Heraclio Sánchez street, in the heart of the university municipality, and were able to catch it in a blanket.

Local Police at the scene traced its owner, who had rescued the dog recently from Teide National Park, where he found it abandoned and starving.

The police ecological division went a step further and located the dog’s original owner. Now, officers want to know just why the dog had been dumped, and was extremely malnourished.
