Sleep well!

WHETHER you live in Tenerife, spend a lot of time here, or rent your property out, the comfort and quality of the beds in your property will dictate how comfortable you are, and how much you enjoy your stay.

Holidaying and living in Tenerife are all about quality of life and relaxing, so nobody wants to go home from holiday exhausted, because they haven’t slept well!

Technological advances in the manufacture of beds bring numerous advantages. For example, those old, sprung mattresses wore down over time until you could feel the springs through the cover. And sprung mattresses on a sofa bed will inevitably start to wear along the bend, with similar problems.

Newer mattresses are either made of memory or visco-elastic foam, or a combination of foam and springs. As with many things, to a certain extent, you get what you pay for, but, generally speaking, foam mattresses are cheaper than sprung versions.

They can also be transported more easily, because many of them are vacuum packed, and only need to be left to expand for a few hours after delivery.

Because they are generally made from one piece of foam, it’s also possible to have them made to specific sizes. So, if you have a bed from a certain retailer, who make up their own sizes, forcing you to buy a replacement and all the bedding from them, you can now get a mattress elsewhere!

Another problem with sprung mattresses was that if two people of unequal weight slept in a double bed, one would roll towards the middle. With foam mattresses, or combination ones, this doesn’t happen.

However, a word of warning: some of the highest-quality, memory-foam mattresses may be ideal for the UK, but not so much for here. If your body sinks too deeply into the memory foam, it will also trap body heat, which is advantageous for a cold climate, but not for sunny Tenerife.

The best, all-round solution, providing quality, support and comfort, is a sprung core, with a layer of memory foam on top, allowing your body-weight to sink in to the mattress to a certain point, when it meets support.

These are medium-priced mattresses that suit pretty much everyone because they do provide lumbar support, but the foam is soft and comfortable.

If you have had your mattress more than eight years, it’s probably time for a change; ask for a quote, and you might be pleasantly surprised. Bed bases come in a variety of styles, although they all perform the same function.

However, since a lot of properties in Tenerife have bedrooms that are on the smaller side, beds with storage underneath are always a useful option.  Some raise the mattress with an effortless hydraulic system, without interrupting the bedding, providing a huge amount of storage space for shoes, suitcases, clothes or extra bedding, or just general storage.
