Sky’s the limit for stars

by John Zammit

THE second heat of Tenerife Loves Karaoke, sponsored by The Duke Shops in Costa Adeje, continued where the first heat finished… on a high!

It was staged at The Sky Bar, Puerto Colon, which is a regular TLK venue, and we had a full complement of singers again. Like last week’s heat, there was a variety of songs from entrants, with not an Adele or Ed Sheeran song in sight.

Kerry Railton, Tenerife Loves Karaoke host for the night, got proceedings underway with Tracey’s energetic version of Tina Turner’s Proud Mary, which certainly got the crown going.

Denver followed that with Westlife’s You Raise Me Up, and also earned rapturous applause. And then came our first 13-year-old of the night.

A nervous Alysha, who took to the stage shaking, performed an excellent version of Can I Have This Dance? Next up was Joey, and, for the second heat running, Boyzone’s version of the Bee Gees’ Words was sung, again receiving huge applause.

Georgina followed Joey, belting out Beyonce’s Listen, to bring the house down. Last to perform before the break was Michelle, who made sure the crowd were left wanted more, with her version of I Will Always Love You, by Whitney Houston. What a performance!

After a short break, during which Kerry, along with 2018 Tenerife Entertainments Awards compere Didi, entertained the crowd with a few songs, Millie got us back underway.

She sang Scars To Your Beautiful, by Alessia Cara, which had them back to where they were before the interval.

Then it was the turn of Steve, who sang a song which was alien to many of us, Leroy Van Dyke’s The Auctioneer, which we all loved. Steve sang about selling a pig, and he even had the dance moves to match.

Former TLK finalist Jane was next, with a superb version of Back to Black, followed by Georgia’s I’m Not The Only One, by Sam Smith.

The performances really were of a high standard, which continued with our last two contestants, Marie singing Where The Boys Are, then Sophie’s karaoke favourite, Black Velvet.

After a short break, the judges confirmed that Georgina, Tracey, Michelle and Marie were all through to the sing-off, which began with Marie singing Unchained Melody.

Michelle performed Halleluiah, Georgina offered Mercy, and, finally, came Tracey with Losing You. What a night, what a sing-off, which was always going to be close.

All performers were in excellent voice, giving everyone at the The Sky Bar a night of first-class entertainment.

However, two people had to be chosen to go through to the semi-finals, and Georgina and Michelle won the vote. Congratulation to both girls, who each received their winning heat trophies.

We would like to thank everyone who entered the heat at the “The Sky Bar”, whose owners and staff helped make it another memorable heat.

The next Tenerife Loves Karaoke is on Saturday, 23rd May, at Our Place, Costa del Silencio.

If you would like to enter this heat, to be in with a chance of winning 1,000 euros and performing at this year’s Tenerife Entertainment Awards, call 822 141 517, or register at the venue. And don’t forget, you have to sing it to win it!
