How to get an NIE number
| The Spanish authorities issue this number so that they can uniquely identify foreigners. It is equivalent to the Spanish citizens DNI, identity, number. You are legally obliged to apply for this if you are going to be making payments in to the Hacienda (Spanish Tax Authorities). Once you have applied it is issued on the spot.
Once received you should be aware the the certificate is only valid for 3 months. The Spanish authorities will only issue 2 certificates per calendar year. What you need the number for:
