Project December’s Fantastic Five!

LAST Friday saw the birth of five exciting and innovative businesses in Tenerife at the Capecan Business Centre’s “Project December”.

It was held at Hotel San Blas Reserve and around 100 business people and entrepreneurs were entertained by Fernando Moreno, founder of “The Business Game”, in his usual controversial manner.

Fernando was followed by a carefully-selected panel of experts, who delivered informative presentations about subventions, tax incentives, business angels, investor-funding, and technological advancements, using their insider knowledge.

Those who didn’t attend will discover these developments over the next couple of years as the plans become reality.

The day was closed by psychologist and Business Coach Martin Goodyer, who helped those present to digest the day’s key points and how best to apply them to their own businesses.

Christopher Pennington, Managing Director of Capecan Business Centre and Project December founder, said: “We heard from the Cabildo representative that the economic situation has been extremely challenging over the past four years, and that the situation is expected to worsen in 2012.

“The Cabildo stated that 76% of businesses which received funds in the past had failed in their first 18 months, and that they would have to reconsider how grants and investment should be distributed in the future.

“Funding is important for new businesses, but statistics show that entrepreneurs who have a business coach or mentor are actually 70% more likely to succeed.

“So maybe the Cabildo and other Government departments will look more positively on incentives such as “Project December”, which is a continued support structure for new businesses, providing a pragmatic approach to business by successful business people.”

Mr Pennington added: “I find it amazing that while corporations are laying off thousands of people, we are able to create five new businesses.

“Maybe a change of philosophy is what is required, as demonstrated by Fernando Moreno.”

Information about last Friday’s fantastic five winners of the business scholarships can be found at the www.capecanconsultants.com website.

Next year’s event will be aimed more at the international market and Capecan will bring amazing speakers to the Island, unlike anything ever seen here before. So keep an eye on the website for the announcement early in 2012.

Capecan Business Centre specialises in reducing business costs, which is something not only new businesses will be looking to keep to a minimum, but also established businesses.

Companies can join Capecan’s professional business centre community in Golf del Sur, or register their interest to join its new centre, scheduled to open in Los Cristianos.

The extra funds companies save by joining Capecan means they can expand their reach to find their clients further with intelligent marketing campaigns.
