THE Spanish Senior Badminton Championships, to be hosted by Adeje from Saturday 29th April to Monday, 1st May is expected to attract over 200 athletes from 26 clubs. The age-range for seniors is 30-75 years and there’s free entry to the Las Torres pavilion venue.
At a press conference to announce details of the event the Adeje Sports Councillor Adolfo Alonso, announcing details alongside Canarian Badminton Federation President Pedro Alonso Hernández, said: “This is the first time the Canary Islands are hosting a championship at this level in the sport.”
Ten of the sport’s top names have already confirmed their presence, and Cllr Alonso added: “Adeje’s commitment to sport, and sportsmen and women, is a fundamental part of our annual scheduling.”
He stressed that the local Council didn’t simply cater for local athletes, but also worked to introduce national and international tournaments and sporting individuals to the borough, to encourage those from Adeje in their chosen sports.
Canarian Federation President Hernández thanked the Council for its support, saying that Adeje had been chosen, among other reasons, because of the high standard of installations, excellent hotel offers near to the sports grounds, and the climate!
Also present were Federation Secretary Angel Castillo, and a representative from the Tenerife Association of Parents of Children with Autism, (Apanate), which will benefit from a series of solidarity activities during the tournament, such as the sale of commemorative T-shirts.
