Migrants catch cold with their dodgy boat captain

A PATERA, carrying 53 immigrants, was intercepted by the local navy on the north coast of Mauritania, en route to the Canary Islands.

Sources say the group were Senegalese, who had already sailed from an unspecific area on the Atlantic coast, with the prospect of the Canaries being their final destination

The captain made an excuse to stop off in Mauritania’s Nouadhibou port to buy supplies for the treacherous journey ahead.

But he abandoned the boat, and with it the occupants, together with the cash they had just given him for the supplies.

The navy then intercepted the hapless sub-Saharans, and spent this week questioning them.

Once the questioning was over, they were handed over to the police and sent back to Senegal.

Spain’s National Police, and the Guardia Civil, are already in Mauritania, collaborating with the military

Their intention is to take control of the trafficking and exploitation of these poor people.
