Marijuana plants grown on terrace

THE National Police Prevention Unit found 34 marijuana plants

growing on an apartment terrace in Avenue Chitchat, Los Cristianos.

Police identified the owner as a 35-year-old Italian man, following  a complained a few days earlier by several neighbours, through their Community officials, that there was a large number of the plants in plain sight on the man’s terrace, which emitted a strong smell.

He was issued a warning only, because police could not prove he was involved in drug-trafficking.

But the Italian was told that “the illicit consumption or possession of toxic drugs, narcotic drugs or psychotropic substances, even if they were not intended to be sold, in public places”, was considered a serious offence.

An administrative file, which has been opened against him, could lead to him being fined.
