Lost four, shown the door!

BOSNIA coach Nenad Markovic was bounced out of his coaching role at Iberostar Tenerife during a league weekend break for international action.

Nenad arrived in the summer, and, although he had the team purring in European Champions League qualifying games, a run of four straight league defeats sealed his fate.

Former coach Txus Vidorretta, who left Tenerife in the summer to take the reins at Valencia, proved a tough act to follow.

The latest coach, Greek Fotis Katsikaris, flew in on Monday night, arriving with a reputation as a strong-willed, experienced coach with 150 Spanish league wins to his credit when guiding Valencia, Bilbao, and, most recently, Murcia.

An intensive week ahead followed with coach and players getting to know each other on the practice court before resuming league action at home to Real Betis, tomorrow (Saturday) in La Laguna.

At least one Tenerife player was given a chance to drop hints to the new boss last weekend. Fran Vazquez celebrated his call-up to the Spain squad by top scoring with 15 points in their qualifying game for the 2019 World Championships.

It didn’t prevent Spain from losing 79-66 against Montenegro in Burgos. But Spain got it right two days later, beating Slovenia 92-84, again in Burgos, with Fran providing another another eye-catching display, scoring 11 points.
