Zurich are spelling it out – in English! - 26.06.2009
ZURICH Insurance now have an office in Los Cristiano : The TVT, SL exclusive Agency . It has been open since January and is a Godsend for British expats living in the south of Tenerife.

The English-speaking office is located in Ed. Kanal, Local 2, on the opposite corner to the Los Cristianos language school – or, the yellow building just up from the Apolo Centre, on the left-hand side as you head for Paradise Park.
The office is specifically aimed at the British market, and the staff have a range of insurance services adapted to your personal needs.
The TVT team pride themselves on their exemplary service, providing you with the greatest protection for your family, home, car, business, community association, and even boat or hotel!
But the beauty of it is that all the information is provided in your own language.
TVT, exclusive Agency of Zurich has over 15 years’ experience in the Canary Islands, with offices in Fanabe and also on the island of La Palma. The main clients are expats from the UK, Germany and Center Europe. All the staff is multilingual and one of the strengths of the agency is to explain in detail all the products in the native language of the customer, and have a filosofy of identigying needs of a client and then offer afoordable solutions.
When the European laws changed back in June 2007, the insurance agency decided to offer Zurich policies exclusively, as opposed to being a broker.
This means that policies are price wise very competitive because they are direct from source. They can print the policy straight away for you – and deal with claims directly for you. There is no third party involved, which makes the whole process simpler.
In addition, TVToffer DKV health insurance to their clients. Office Director Susana Dias said: “We offer a truly personal service. We do everything for our clients – they come for price but stay for service. We are a professional and reliable insurance agency in Tenerife, and by number of staff, years in the business and number of clients: the biggest Insurance Expat Agency in Canaries . During the last 15 years we have been exclusively dedicated to the insurance business and we have the best partners on our side: Zurich Insurance and DKV health insurance.”
Differences from insurance in the UK
Did you know?
Car insurance is now mandatory for your vehicle to be insured when it has its ITV.
Police can now scan your number plate to ensure that all your documentation is in place to negate random-stop paper checks.
Premiums for car insurance are calculated on the power of your vehicle, the main driver’s details and your postcode.
According to statistics, there are five cars registered for every inhabitant of Tenerife. This is because of the huge rental market. As a result, overall claims are high.
If your policy is due for renewal, Zurich can check your no-claims entitlement by the last five digits of your policy number.
Business Insurance
Public liability cover in the UK is a minimum £1m. Here in the Canaries, it’s 150,000 euros.
Insurance companies registered in Spain are supported by the Consorcio for major, catastrophic events such as the Delta storm, or if Mount Teide should erupt. In the UK, no insurance cover is provided for ‘natural disasters’ as a matter of course.
Climate Change
In January 2008, Zurich Financial Services Group signed an advisory agreement with Tony Blair, the former British Prime Minister.
As part of the agreement, Mr. Blair advises Zurich’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) James J. Schiro, and provides general guidance on developments and trends in the international political environment. Specifically, he advises and collaborates with Zurich on its Climate Initiative.
