SAN MIGUEL

Artisan Month

The Department of Culture of the municipality of San Miguel de Abona are to gamble on a new project that aims to raise awareness, support and promote traditional handicrafts Canary Islands. Participants in the various courses on these subjects that are taught will have the opportunity to display and sell their work on the second Saturday of each month at the esplanade outside the Farmers' Market. This area is one of the largest influx of visitors during weekends.

Granadilla
Promoting rural tourism

The council of Granadilla de Abona, through the Department of Local Development and AEDL, represented by Esteban Gonzalez, opened the deadline to apply for grants to promote rural tourism. The aim is to support the rehabilitation of houses of traditional architecture - Canarian - located in rural areas with strong historical and artistic nature, taking as its destination exploitation as rural tourist accommodation during a period of not less than ten years.

Unelco renews their vehicles to remote areas
Unelco Endesa has renewed its vehicle fleet on the island, with the Nissan brand. The new cars are easily identifiable externally, since they have the mark of Unelco Endesa on both sides and on the front. They also show the telephone company's technical assistance.

By their very nature, these vehicles meet the needs of the institution for work in town and in rural areas and remote areas, taking into account the very terrain of La Palma. Similarly, they are equipped with all the essentials required in terms of comfort, reliability and security.

 

"Live greener"

The councillor for Tourism of the Canary Islands Government, Rita Martin, introduced in La Palma Island a Green Campaign 2008, inviting residents who live in the canaries in Gran Canaria, Tenerife, Lanzarote and Fuerteventura to visit La Palma, La Gomera and El Hierro.

The focus of this campaign, which also includes Ashotel, is the colour green that dominates the nature of these Islands, with the logo and Green Islands and the slogan, this project will be developed during May, June and July to promote the movement of visitors to these Islands.

This is an initiative which is part of the commitment made by the Government of the Canary Islands, with the signing of the Agreement by the Competitiveness and the Quality Tourism in the Canary Islands 2008-2020, in terms of the agreements in terms of promotion and marketing.

The Tourist Board and Ashotel signed the agreement with the municipality of La Palma, La Gomera and El Hierro, allowing the launch of this campaign, amounting to more than 87,500 euros.

The Minister of Tourism, Rita Martin, noted that "with this campaign we continue with our strong advocacy inside and outside our borders. In addition to the campaigns conducted in various European cities, we also consider it essential to bear in mind residents in the Canaries. That is why we conduct these kinds of initiatives that allow us to maintain our destiny with that freshness that we all desire. "

"Contemplating the sky from a different angle, making outdoor sports and travel paths through which circulates tranquillity. Close to you. A few kilometres your side is greener," is one of the messages that are included in this campaign beginning in May.

May Crosses

The Museum of Anthropology and History of Tenerife participates in the Day of the Cross. The center displays two flower crosses that may be visited on Saturday and Sunday - this weekend.

The Cabildo from Tenerife participates this year in the traditional Day of the Cross. Through the Museum of Anthropology and History of Tenerife, centre dependent on the Agency Autonomous Museums and Centres (OAMC}. These crossings will be located in the former chapel of the House of Charter of Valley of War and in the House Saavedra, annexed to the Palace Lercaro of La Laguna, headquarters of the Museum of Anthropology and History. The cross in the House of Charter has been donated by the Youth Association of Valle Idafe War. The May Crosses are made up of a varied set of flowers more popular in the Canary Islands and although there are locations throughout the islands which commemorate this day, it is in Tenerife and La Palma where it is more widespread. In the Christian tradition, the grounds on which the crosses are placed are varied.
