Latvian carried drugs inside four sealed cans

A 36-YEAR-OLD Latvian man was arrested by National Police at Tenerife South Airport, after discovering he was carrying heroin and ecstasy pills.

Officers confiscated 1.8kg of heroin (around 15,000 doses) and 0.6kg of MDMA, recognised mainly as ecstasy.

The man arrived in Tenerife on a flight from his country, after flying via another Schengen area, and he was stopped and searched by officers after setting foot outside the airport building.

The drugs were found hidden inside four sealed cans, disguised as food, and the Latvian was escorted back to the building, to be identified.

His luggage was also searched, and officers found four cans of food, hidden among his belongings. They became suspicious and opened the cans to see what was inside.

They came across packages inside the cans, and, once tested, they proved to be heroin and MDMA.

The successful arrest came via information obtained by the airport’s National Police, as well as from other important, detecting devices around the building.

The arrested man, together with the drugs, and a police report, are waiting to be presented to the judicial authorities.
