Key to preventing drug use

ADEJE Council staged a series of courses last month to spell out the dangers of using drugs, as well as substance-abuse habits, in sporting and leisure zones.

The courses were geared for those who work and participate, directly, in the borough’s sporting events, and were designed, specifically, to promote positive, healthy models as reference points.

During the three-day event, those involved looked at working on preventing these needless habits in all

health-related programmes.

Sensible measures, designed to help the population in general, were also examined.

Adeje Health Councillor Amada Trujillo Bencomo stressed: “Education and training is so important for our trainers and coaches.

“They can become agents for prevention among our young people because they know, first-hand, the people involved in sports, and how to help them directly.”

Workshop discussions were held concerning alcohol and tobacco abuse, as well as preventing the use of drugs in everyday life.

Those taking part studied various suggestions, which

included making sure that youngsters were aware

of the effects and awful consequences of drug-use and

substance-abuse.
