Karaoke rocks Amarilla… at the Rockin Horse!

By John Zammit

TENERIFE Loves Karaoke, sponsored by The Duke Shops, Costa Adeje, continues to be an extremely popular, fun-filled event, not only for contestants, but also the spectators.

The sixth heat took place at The Rockin Horse, on Amarilla Golf, and it was busy night, packed with onlookers cheering on the performers.

As in previous heats, we had a full complement of singers, and, again, a wide variety of songs and ages.

Kerry Railton, Tenerife Loves Karaoke’s host for the night, got proceedings underway with Dougie singing a great karaoke tune, Andy Williams’ Can’t Take My Eyes Off You, kicking off the evening to great applause.

Following on was firm favourite Jo, celebrating her birthday, with Björk’s It’s Oh So Quiet. But, believe me, it certainly wasn’t, after she had finished.

Charlie came next with A Stevie Wonder number, Superstition, which had the crowd on their feet again. Then it was Frankie’s turn, singing Diamonds Are Forever, by Shirley Bassey.

Emma, who took to the stage next, sang a beautiful version of Boys and Girls, by Pixie Lott, and then came the interval.

Barry, one of the judges, along with Thomas and Kerry, entertained The Rockin Horse crowd, while everyone else recharged their glasses and had a comfort break.

The second half started with Lee providing a superb performance of Stealers Wheel’s Stuck In The Middle With You. It was definitely a crowd-pleaser, followed by Michelle’s version of You’ve Got A Friend, by Carole King.

Then came Sunshine on Leith, by The Proclaimers, and Donna singing a classic by Billie Jo Spears, Blanket On The Ground.

Then came our last contestant, Alex, with Elvis Presley’s I Just Can’t Help Believin’.

What a heat we’d just witnessed, from the contestants and an awesome crowd.

The judges, who had a tough time deciding who would be going into the sing-off, confirmed that they were Frankie, Lee, Emma and Michelle. And each name was announced to great applause, as there had been all night, for every contestant.

Their second song choice was started by Michelle singing Natural Woman, followed by Lee performing Wild Wood, Emma singing Valerie, and, lastly, Frankie with Faith Hill’s There You’ll Be.

What a night, and what a sing-off, which was always going to be a close call.

Everyone had performed brilliantly, but, despite providing everyone at The Rockin Horse with an entertaining night, just two singers could go through to this year’s semi-finals, and they were announced as Frankie and Lee.

Congratulation to each of them, who received their heat trophies on the night.

We would like to thank everyone who entered this heat, at The Rockin Horse, as well as Karen and Barry and the staff, making this another memorable heat. And staff dressed the bar brilliantly!

The next heat of Tenerife Loves Karaoke is on Wednesday 24th April, at The Original Wigan Pier, in Torviscas.

If you would like to enter this heat, to be in with a chance of winning 1,000 euros in cash, and a performing spot at this year’s Tenerife Entertainment Awards, call 822 141 517, or register direct at the venue.
