Jerry Lee wins gold!

LOCAL boxer Jerry Lee Palmer claimed first place at the prestigious Women’s Winter Box Cup, at the Guildford Spectrum arena last weekend in Surrey, beating two world-class opponents.

The event, for established women and girl boxers only, is the first of its type in the UK, and is open to Juniors, Youth and Elite fighters across a variety of weights.

It aims to help develop the in-depth strength of women’s boxing, and also to inspire other women and girls who may wish to get involved in the sport.

Jerry Lee, representing West Warwicks Boxing Club, was competing in the 69kg category and progressed to the final by beating Kerry Hayley, on a 5-0, unanimous points decision.

She then faced a final showdown with the favourite, Paige Goodyear, who won a World Youth Championship bronze medal in 2018.

They both fought at a ferocious pace, over three tough rounds. But at the final bell, the judges awarded Jerry Lee another unanimous win, again 5-0, and the Gold medal, in only her ninth bout.

It proves she really does have what it takes to progress much further… so watch this space!
