Holiday choices for Tenerife residents!

IN the age of connectivity, travelling has become cheap and easy. Tenerife is, nowadays, the main European, touristic hub.

Every year, millions of people come to visit our beautiful island, attracted by the “world’s best weather”, and the spectacular landscapes. But what about all of us, living and thriving in Tenerife all year round? Where are the holidays for the people living in a holiday place?

Last year, my personal choice was a Canarian cruise, as described,  previously, in the Canarian Weekly, although, with the Island’s two international airports and two touristic ports, the possibilities are far from being limited.

If you are residents with a green NIE number, there is very good news for you. In 2017, the resident discount for flights and ferries between the Islands increased to a much-appreciated 75%!  If you haven’t seen the other Islands yet, this is the perfect time.

The Canary Islands are considered to be a micro-continent, with great diversity: El Hierro the wild favourite among scuba divers, with its volcanic sea beds and pelagic life, such as pilot whales, whale sharks, mantas and dolphins.

La Palma, with its Carnival, the Laurisilva forests, the observatory and the starry nights. La Gomera, favourite among excursionists, with the Garajonay national park. The eastern Islands, Fuerteventura and Lanzarote, with the white beaches and turquoise bays, a paradise for water-sport enthusiasts and beach lovers. Last, but not least, Gran Canaria and Tenerife, the bigger sisters, where you can finish your days of shopping or excursions with a delicious traditional dinner, tasting the amazing Canarian cheeses and wines.

Standing out among the mid-range destinations is the Spanish peninsula; all the major cities are reachable, with just a few hours of flying from Tenerife, and a few euros, with discounts of up to 50% for residents.

Dear Old Europe still offers incomparable riches; take a stroll in Barcelona old town to admire the genius of Gaudi’s modernism and Dali’s surrealism, and the unfinished cathedral of the Sagrada Familia with its four, mystical faces. And Madrid, the “Gran Capital”; Malaga, the city of culture, and, with just a few more euros, even the beautiful Portuguese cities of Porto and Lisbon.

If you are looking for a taste of the tropics, the islands of Cape Verde are well connected, and easily reachable from Tenerife. Cape Verde is a small, African archipelago with white beaches, transparent waters and good weather, all year round.

And Morocco, sometimes underestimated, offering incomparable natural beauty, and the legacy of a millenary tradition. It is important to plan your holiday well, especially to those places that have, just recently, opened their doors to tourism, to avoid surprises capable of turning the holiday of a lifetime into an experience to forget.

A reputable travel agency can help you choose your dream vacation, taking care of all the hassles related to travelling, and leaving you with only the pleasure of your holiday. With more than 13 years of experience in the travel industry, Tenerife Sunshine is the travel agency of choice for all our resident and non-resident friends.
