Helicopter rescues crater-fall woman

A HELICOPTER from the Canarian Search and Rescue Emergency Services was summoned to help rescue a

69-year-old woman, who had fallen into a volcanic crater in La Palma, known to many as Caldera de Taburiente.

The accident happened near a camp site at playa de Taburiente, in the El Paso municipality.

A call was made to the emergency services and the helicopter was dispatched instantly because of where the woman had fallen.

The caller told the operator that the woman had fallen and hurt a leg. But once the helicopter arrived, she was winched on to it safely, before being flown to the Hospital General’s helipad in La Palma.

A medical team awaited her arrival, to transfer her to the emergency department, where her injury was treated.
