The height of courage

THREE Canarians put their courage to the test last Saturday afternoon with a perilous feat, walking on a nylon “high-line” across Gran Canaria’s Barranco Moya, from one mountain to another.

They are competing in a new, nerve-racking sport called high-lining, and Kevin Vega, from Gran Canaria, along with La Palma’s Ruben Perez and a Catalan, Alejandro Gimeno, all took part.

They start 200m from the ground, and face a 300m walk, from one side of the ravine to the other.

This sport consists of brave, daredevil people, crossing barrancas by balancing themselves on a nylon line, just 2½cm wide, at fearful heights. great height.

And though the balancing act looks extremely dangerous, the athletes practising this sport are adamant there is no risk! In fact, the valley is becoming recognisable across Spain for holding high-line records.

The three athletes completed the 300m walk, with Vega beating his own personal record in just 17 minutes. Perez took 25 minutes and Gimeno a rapid 15 minutes.
