Health-hazard campers are evicted from beach

ILLEGAL campers, on a beach in Las Galletas, were turfed off on Wednesday by the Costas (Provincial Coastal Service of Santa Cruz de Tenerife), backed up by the Guardia Civil and Arona’s Local Police.

The eviction took place on the Los Enojados beach, also known as Las Burras, to recover the area for public use, as well as for health, hygiene and safety reasons.

The Costas, responsible for all Spanish beaches, cleared everyone encamped, either part-time or full-time, from the area close to El Fraile and Las Galletas.

This action has been carried out before in the same area, because the beach has become a target for both camping and illegal settlements.

Unfortunately, this has generated continuous problems of health, with a large accumulation of rubbish.

Simply by being there, the campers have prevented the area’s free use by other residents and visitors, causing numerous complaints, as well safety incidents.

Arona Council Social Services were not needed because there were no cases of families without resources, involving children or seniors under their care.
